Who We Are
The Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging (LMTAAA) is a local governmental
agency that provides home and community services for seniors and adults with disabilities to help them remain living
in their own homes. Case Management staff assesses and authorizes home care services for clients in Lewis, Mason and Thurston
Counties. Information and Assistance staff offers free help to individuals and organizations in our communities to identify services and
programs for seniors, adults with disabilities and family caregivers.
Our goal is to offer quality services emphasizing independence
and dignity. The professional staff is responsible for fiscal and
contract management, program and system coordination and assisting
clients to access services. LMTAAA operates Information and
Assistance, Case Management, and the Family Caregiver Support Program
in all three counties. The agency also contracts for a variety
of services in each community. In addition, LMTAAA staff,
board and council members advocate for an effective system
of long-term care services, collaborating with policy makers and other
social service agencies.
Agency History
The LMTAAA was created through the collaborative action of Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties in 1976. LMTAAA
is a governmental agency, sponsored and governed by the three county governments.
The LMTAAA Board, referred to as the Council of Governments (CoG), is comprised of one county commissioner from each
of the three sponsoring counties. The LMTAAA Advisory Council, with equal representation of citizens from each county,
makes recommendations to the CoG and staff. The agency operates four offices in the three county area, in Olympia, Shelton,
Chehalis and Morton.
Funding Sources
LMTAAA purchases services from private and public agencies and arranges for service delivery for individuals who
meet eligibility requirements. LMTAAA utilizes a variety of state, federal and local funding sources including the
Federal Older American’s Act, Medicaid, Respite, State Family Caregiver Support Program, the State Senior Citizens
Services Act and individual and community donations.
